Piha Beach

Day two brought us to what we pictured NZ to be like, awesome scenery and hot hot heat.

We drove back into Auckland to grab our buddy Chris, the guy that we met after we touched down, from there we all headed west to Piha beach. Somebody told me about Piha and from other people in town it sounded like it had a pretty good reputation. So we left the city not expecting the road ahead of us, literally. The hour drive was pretty crazy to say the least, we didn't expect the road to be so winding that it looked like a blind guy built it. It took us through a national park and the scenery was pretty incredible, reminded me a lot of Hawaii… and Jurassic Park.
Crazy house built into the side of the valley just before Piha Beach.
We eventually made it to the beach, me motion sick after laying in the back on the way there, but once we saw the sand and Lions Rock, that was the last thing on my mind. We spent the majority of the day, just getting torched by the sun as well as almost losing our beach supplies out the to tides. Two important lessons learned right away, Trev and I are still mighty red and finally bought sunscreen and Aleo Vera that barely reduces the pain. Jean and Mike told us that because of the rest the worlds pollution, NZ no longer has an Ozone layer, so the UV's are intense.

We dropped Chris back off at his hostel and headed out to find our campsite, a grocery store parking lot. From there we enjoyed a luxury meal of hamburger, cream of mushroom soup, and potatoes. Then went to bed thinking of the day ahead of us, we all signed up for canyoning and were getting stoked for it.
