Arrival in Auckland: Part 1

So to all of you who do not know by know, this blog has raised from the dead. From now on this is where you can follow all of Trevor Reitsma and Nathan Huisman's New Zealand travels for the next, well, to be honest, who knows how long.

We left Smithers on Thursday after a 3 hour delay but still arrived in YVR to make our connecting 13 hours flight to Auckland.

On the 13 hour flight over the Pacific, Trevor was seated next to a really awesome Kiwi, Jean who was on her way back to Auckland to meet up with her fiancé. They got chatting and after we touched down in Auckland she mentioned she would give us a ride from the airport to downtown, but that it may be really crammed and uncomfortable. Trev and I looked at each other and both thought the same thing, "we're saving 15 dollars, of course!" So after landing and getting hit with the humidity bomb and sunshine, her fiancé picked us up in his right-hand-drive BMW and we crammed our packs into the car. We were super stoked to get a free ride and it was very apparent that the stereotypes of Kiwis is extremely true when it comes to friendliness and hospitality. Not only did they give us a ride downtown, they gave us a short tour and some good pointers for our upcoming adventure. They dropped us off not far from our hostel and swapped contact information. It was such a sweet-as way to start the day, because it was still only 745am.

From downtown we found our way to a hostel that a fellow Canadian on the plane was staying at. We booked our night, stored our bags and headed downtown in search of a vehicle and an adventure. This was much easier to come by than we expected…
