Christmas in Castlepoint!

This is how I spent my Christmas, just the way I planned.

Christmas time was spent like it should be when your not surrounded by white snow and tempatures are above -10 degrees, on a hot beach in the scorching sun!

On the 24th we made it to Masterston to do our shop for our Christmas Eve feast in the Countdown, our grocery store of choice over here. We picked up some treats, but nothing that would compare to the turkey and mashed potato dinner that our friends and family would be enjoying back home. From Masterton we headed to the east coast to the small area of Castlepoint, upon arrival it seemed like we arrived in desert tornado. The wind had sand flying sideways for the majority of the afternoon, creating the feeling of standing infront of a sandblaster, not cool. But soon enough, the wind died down, we were able to cook our Christmas Eve feast of meat and go exploring before dusk. Hiking up to the lighthouse that stood on the ridge and watching the sun go down, a highlight of this trip hands down.
At the base of the lighthouse.

The next morning we awoke, a small sense of excitement in the air because of it being Christmas day but also it was never really sinking in that it was Christmas. Without the snow and cold and lights and decorations and probably most importantly friends and family. The day was spent on the beach, staring at the ocean, watching surfers and swimmers and attempting to perfect the man tan. A hard days work if you ask me.
Christmas breakfast, not quite the same as waffles at home, but pretty close.

Coincidentally enough, the bay here is called Christmas Bay; it's almost like we knew what we were doing.

But yea, that was how we spent our first Christmas away from home and down under. New Years is planned to be spent in Wellington and we're hoping to be in the south island on the 5th of January.
